Elston “Peter Max” Smith, aka Chef El, was dubbed the “Trap Chef” on the “Pretty Girls Like Trap Music” tour featuring recording artist 2 Chainz and indie sensation, “Young Dolph.” Chef El was personal chef to Young Dolph. The who’s who list of palates, has experienced Chef El cooking, such as, Mayor Coleman Young, Monica Conyers, recording artist Royce da’ 5'9", and Atlanta's gospel radio personality, Willie Moore Jr., & Krista Lee, to name a few. For more than 53 years “Chef El has been honing his craft in the kitchen. His signature dishes include, char-grilled turkey, shrimp dressing, sweet habanero chicken wings, and 5-star Mac & Cheese. Dishes like these are why he is in demand around the holidays. Chef El’s distinctive seasoning and prep concept cannot be duplicated. A true Michelin Star method is applied in every dish. His model is, Seasoned and Highly Flavored. His mentors are his mother, Verneaker Roberts and grandmother, Clayomie Fritz, who was a master chef in her own rights. Mrs. Fritz trained Chef El at the tender age of 7. In the early 60s, her home, located on Detroit's Eastside, was a home away from home for traveling entertainers such as Billie Holiday, Billy Epstein, Duke Ellington, Coleman A. Young and others. They would stop in, stay the night and dine on good food prepared by Mrs. Fritz.
At fifteen years old, Chef El was cooking at Detroit’s finest restaurants such as, the Pontchartrain, Stouffers, and The Flaming Ember. Fine cooking is not a game for Chef El, it’s a seasoned life style handed down from generation to generation.
